Backing Barack

I noticed this bumper sticker on a car parked near my house this morning. Bumper stickers usually show ones’ particular association (political, religious, environmental, univ’s etc) and this one cheered Obama. Why, I wondered, would anyone want to show their support to Barack Obama in Australia? Besides owner of the car is a Glaswegian (I know him). Perhaps, US presidential election results will have a huge effect on other countries, not just America.

What are your thoughts on how the forthcoming American presidential elections could shape our future?

    Yes, even my landlord discusses Hillary / Obama.

    Maybe part of it is the global influence of America and the fact that their politicians are seen globally on TV like superstars. Also there is a definite air of showmanship and the issues of first woman / first
    African American involved.

    I think it will be interesting to see how things pan out and it will
    be a historic occasion if Obama gets to be president and I hope it
    helps African Americans in general.
