Friday, June 6th, 2008Wonder what was behind this mad and cheap publicity stunt, especially when his country is struggling with its worst food crisis. Tung Desem Waringin, an Indonesian motivational speaker, dumped approximately $10,000 over Serang city to promote his new book “Marketing Revolution.”
His Myspace page (it is actually his official page!), constantly plays R Kelly’s The World’s Greatest song in the background and persuades everyone to buy his book or attend his seminar to get rich quickly. Should financial wealth be the only aim in life?
I still do not understand what was he trying to gain from this publicity? Will he sell enough books to recoup that money? Or is he playing a long game and this cheap stunt is to boost his career as a motivational speaker? His publicity stunt seems to have got people around the world talking about it.
Maybe it is just fame and the buzz. Sometimes fame is far more intoxicating than money, especially to someone who seems to like to be on stage as a sensation-seeker.
